Not sure if I could endure to watch every single episode of Hogan´s Heroes, but this, "The Kommendant´s Kollection", is making this quite possible if you live in the US. Release date: November 24 2009.

Quentin Tarantino´s "Inglorious Basterds" is a classic and so is the movie soundtrack (so you guys need to get that). The guy is clearly a member of the old boys club in one way or another, I wonder what the odds are that he has seen this site at three o´clock in the morning with his choice of brandy nearby and a grin on his face? Quentin, if you read this, thanks.

Here´s a weird comic in which Dracula´s daughter falls in love with WW1 ace The Red Baron, "Daughter of Dracula", by Ron Fortier (story) and Rob Davis (art). Published by Wild Wolf Entertainment in december 2007. Read more here.

Check this cover out, it´s a swedish magazine from 1964 that usually had detective comics in it, but every now and then a war comic would sneak in, and on this rare cover we see the genres mixed. God, I love this stuff!

Some of you may recall a polish television show called Stawka, shot in 18 episodes in the late sixties and aired successfully in many countries in the years that followed. In Sweden, the show was a huge hit, and this resulted in both a series of paperbacks (see above) and comic books. We recently got in touch with a gentleman who used to work for the publishinghouse that was involved in the paperbacks and he kindly sent us some shots from a book signing that Stawka star Stanislaw Mikulski did in central Stockholm in 1971. Click here for a larger image from the event.

In 2004, yours truly and artist Lennart Samor decided to create a war comic and print it in a limited edition along with some other stuff in a tributefanzine called Truppserien (Troop comics). This was printed in 120 copies in classic format and aimed at collectors in Sweden. It´s a story about a Luftwaffe-pilot and his last mission, flying a "secret guest" out of Berlin before the russians can grab him. It´s purely fiction ofcourse, but it has a nice twist. This comic has now been selected for print in our SLICE (global edition) magazine, so it will see a wider audience now.

Harry Pearson is clearly proud to be a member of the old boys network, and his book "Achtung Schweinhund!" (january 2007) is a good read for any visitor to this site. Unless you´re here by mistake.

Well, this is our own story and we have had a few in print the last few years from my swedish publishingheadquarter SLICE. This one is lifted from our swedish homepage Victory and was recently published like this in LEKTYRENTUSIASTEN just for the hell of it. So if you live in Sweden or nearby...

We all like a good war movie and Robert Davenport took his interest just a little bit beyond the call of duty when he wrote "The Encyclopedia of War Movies" (Checkmark Books, 2004). And I give it extra points just for having a small image from "Where Eagles Dare" on the cover.

There can be little doubt that the art on this magazine cover (swedish Attack, issue 4 1970) is inspired by this scene from the movie "The Guns Of Navarone" in which Anthony Quinn takes care a nazi. In fact, it´s very likely that another photograph exists, and that this was copied in detail by the artist.

Fans in Denmark can revel in nostalgia if they secure a copy of this book, "Interpresse, Historien om ett forlag" (that´s "Interpresse, A Story About a Publishinghouse" if you don´t understand the lingo). Interpress was launched in 1954 in Denmark by Arne Stenby and they published many classic titles over the years, including a selection of war comics (now listed in more detail on the Stats page). This book was published in 2004 and it tells the story on 112 glorious pages.

Here´s one for the old boys club, don´t you just love it? It´s a greeting card used by the guys at Commando headquarters in late 2006. The front image is one of the old covers used in the recently published Commando calendar.

We have discovered the spanish scene and they certainly produced a lot of great stuff in the heyday of war comics. This pocketbook has 320 pages of action and a great cover to boot. If anybody out there have thoughts on bringing some classic war comics back, this way is one way to do it. If it works in Finland (Korkeajännitys) today it could work elsewhere as well.

The spanish war comic "Hazanas Belicas" has been re-published in super-de-lux format in two series. The first comes with 10 books that gives the reader 3000 pages of nostalgic bliss, the second series consists of another 8 books and an additional 2.450 pages. Suddenly, a craving to understand the spanish lingo pops up...
Hazanas Belicas collectors boxes
And just when you are about plan an extended vacation in Spain to scoop up some comics, these beautiful collectors boxes makes the case even stronger. Now here is an idea for Commando headquarters in Scotland to think about.

This italian war comic has a similar layout to the spanish Hazanas Belicas and may be an imported version.

American journalist Adam Parfrey has written a book about the american postwar Pulp magazines called "It´s A Mans World - Men´s Adventure Magazines, The Postwar Pulps" (ISBN 0-992 915-81-4), and the reviews are raving about it. So discusting or not, it still fascinates an audience today. "Real Men" was one of these magazines, and judging by this cover... could it get any worse?

This beautiful book shows all covers ever produced in full colour of the american weekly publication TV Guide, from 1953 to october 2005. 318 pages in large format paperback (ISBN 0-9772927-1-1) and written by Dr. Stephen F. Hofer at Chicago State University, this book has it all. And it is exactly the kind of book that we would like to see showing all covers of Commando (and/or other war comics) some day. Well, we can dream, can we not?

There are more covers of this sixties pocket series from Norway in the galleries, but I thought it might be nice to give you a chance to view a copy in bigger format. The series was a re-run of a standard sized title called "Commandoes", and they jammed five stories into it. Actually, they just crammed five ordinary and completely intact (covers and all!) issues together and bound them up. They were published by Fredhöls Forlag in Oslo.

Since we borrowed the name for this homepage from a classic movie we might as well owe up. Yes, we love "Where Eagles Dare", and we certainly love Ingrid Pitt who starred in it alongside Clint Eastwood, Richard Burton and Mary Uhre. This issue of ABC Film Review came out in february 1970. We did interview Ingrid a few years back, check it out on the Atlantis Online site.
The lovely Ingrid Pitt II
This article was printed in my one-off summer holiday special "Raket Magasinet" in Sweden in may 2006. I used quotes from the interview I made with Ingrid a few years back.

This classic release of a toy Stuka to tie in with the classic movie "Battle Of Britain" (1969) brings a tear to the eye. At least if you see the price people are asking for it on eBay these days.

This article was published in Sweden in december 2003 in a magazine called Codex - and since I wrote it, it´s a darn positive read.
Deep Purple star cornered
This snapshot of ex-Deep Purple bassplayer/singer Glenn Hughes was taken by Michael Johansson in Stockholm in 2005. Glenn is featured inside the magazine and the cover is by Commando artist Ian Kennedy.
