If you have a question send it to Where Eagles Dare, perhaps somebody out there has got the answer? If the old boys network can get into gear, who knows what we can do? Lets give it a shot! Contact.

Lets go!

QUESTION 1. Who is the artist that created this cover and many hundreds more? MIKE

- Yes, I have the question to answer 1. Don't ask me where I got it from, because it is a very long story, but the artist who is responsable for hundreds of covers (not only war, but also western and science fiction ) is..... Chacopino, a Spanish artist who also did hunderds of 'regular' book covers. No further details available (yet). But anyone who has more on Chacopino, share your knowledge! (PS: there is also another Spanish illustrator with the same name, clearly recognisable by the different style). Best wishes, Ben Kamphuis (editor Dutch comic site 'Pages in Pictures').

QUESTION 2. Can anybody in Germany tell us if war comics were ever printed in Germany? MIKE

- Mike, I don’t believe that any WW2-orientated comic, such as Commando or the Picture Libraries have been printed in post-war Germany as it would have meant using the Swastika. The use of the Swastika in Germany is still a criminal offence. Hope this helps. Regards, Colin Noble.

COMMENT / Thank you Colin. I know that the swastika was removed from modelkits a couple of decades ago, and so on. Comic books is a medium that can be used in different ways, I wonder if war comics that just dealt with history existed? Obviously, I never expected there to be an import of UK comics to Germany, and Battler Britton and the like would probably have been viewed as sad propaganda and an unnecessary reminder of a bad time. I hope that any visitor from Germany to this site doesn´t take the content the wrong way. Nothing is written or done to hurt anybody´s feelings, and I hope everybody out there knows that. MIKE

- Hi Mike! I have never heard about german war comics, although WW II military modelling in 1:72 scale is my most preferred hobby. Maybe some translations from foreign editions, but naturally there is not much interest in that theme here, as we are always the loosers. Later on I have searched a bit with german Google and found some hints that there was a comic called "Feindfahrt" from Dimitri (theme: U-Boat war), but haven't found a picture of that. Maybe you search for yourself with Google. Switch to german language and try it with "Kriegscomics" or search for a comicshop in Germany. Andreas (Germany).

COMMENT / Thank you Andreas. I checked eBay in Germany and found the first german war comics. I will keep my eyes open. MIKE
